CROATIA YACHT CHARTER ITINERARYKnown as the ‘thousand islands’, CROATIA is the most popular emerging charter holiday destination in the Mediterranean. Croatia is a yachtsman’s paradise with lots of islands and harbours at convenient intervals. Cruising distances are short and so days are set at a leisurely pace. The spectacular coastline from Pula in the north to Dubrovnik in the South is characterised by quaint villages and historic towns set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains. You’ll have a pleasant combination of mooring on town quays, in bays with quiet anchorages and in sophisticated marinas, where you can be assured of shelter and social diversion each evening. Ashore there is usually a choice of restaurants and always a bar nearby to keep the local Pivo beer flowing. Colourful local markets provide an abundance of fresh fruits, fish, meat and vegetables so stocking your boat is interesting and easy. Local specialities include Raznijici, pork kebab and Cevapicici, delicious spicy meatballs. Pag island cheese and smoked Prsuit ham are popular starters and can all be washed down with some fine local wines. Sail Connections provides unique opportunities for one-way itineraries. Embarking from Murter and sailing downwind to Dubrovnik allows you to weave your itinerary amongst the islands without having to double on your tracks, theoretically on a downwind sail. Other starting points are Pula, Split and Dubrovnik.
The coast and islands of CROATIA are known as the “thousand islands” - a yachtsman’s paradise with plenty of good marinas and harbours at convenient intervals throughout the cruising area. The coastline is characterised by tiny ancient towns set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains.
There are three main cruising areas ~ PULA on the Istrian Peninsula in the north, near Italy, is the gateway to an exhilarating sailing area with sheltered waters, steady winds and a variety of anchorages. From PULA, it’s a 6-hour sail to the northern cruising grounds, but thereafter, it’s island hopping. The city of PULA is crammed with museums and is steeped in history. Its well-preserved amphitheatre still seats 26,000 spectators, making it one of the biggest in the world. PULA is also accessible via Zagreb, approx 4 hours by land. A two-week charter from PULA is ideal for cruising south to Kornati and Krk National Parks. ZADAR is midway along the coast with easiest access to the more barren and sparsely populated Kornati National Park, a group of over 100 barren islands, rocks and reefs, Their stark beauty contrasts greatly with the lush, green, pine-clad islands further south. They have very little vegetation, very few restaurants but offer peace and beautiful, clear water for swimming. A two-week charter from ZADAR is ideal for cruising south to Kornati National Park, and either North to Krk National Park, or South towards the more populated central region of SPLIT. SPLIT and the Dalmatian Coast lies most central and with best international access to flights, ferries and charter yachts. It’s central position allows you to cruise north to the Kornati and Sibenik, and south to the favourite islands of Hvar, Korcula, Brac, Mljet, Lastova and Vis and as far as Dubrovnik, an ideal itinerary for a 2-week charter. ONE-WAY CHARTERS – occasionally at Sail Connections we are able to offer you one-way charters from Biograd or Split to Dubrovnik, mostly on a downwind course. This route covers the most popular cruising grounds and promises to be a top-of-the-line holiday experience. From Biograd your itinerary allows you to explore the southern Kornati group, and to visit the mainland towns of Sibenik, Trogir and Split. Split is the gateway to the popular Dalmatian islands from Brac and Hvar to Korcula and Mljet, and others in between, all the way to Dubrovnik. At Sail Connections we’ll help you to design an itinerary to suit your particular needs. We have cruising guides and notes to assist your holiday planning and we’ll assist you to book pre-and post charter accommodation. |
