Sail The Seychelles

Scattered like exquisite jewels across the Indian Ocean east of Africa, the Seychelles island group is one of the world’s great charter boat sailing destinations.

For the sailboat charterer, the Seychelles combine tropical island getaway with a natural world encounter that is undoubtedly second to none. The island culture and heritage adds another dimension. The Seychelles have historically been a maritime crossroads in trade between Africa and Asia, with French and British colonial influences in evidence.

The Seychelles cover some 1.4m km2 between 4° and 10° south of the Equator. Closest to Africa are the coral atolls of the Outer Group.  Your charter holiday however will take place in and around the 41 ancient granite islands that make up the Inner Group. Once the preserve of Arab traders, this archipelago is now a popular holiday destination particularly with European and South African travellers.

Easier to get to than you may think, the exotic paradise of the Seychelles ticks all the boxes for a laid-back tropical island holiday to remember.

Arrive in the largest island Mahé for your first taste of Indian Ocean island living. Board your charter boat at Eden Island there on Mahé, or spend time in the settlement of Victoria before transfering by ferry to the nearby island of Praslin, where there there are also full charter base facilities. The fast ferry takes just one hour between these islands and from either port it's just a short sail in any direction to numerous wonderful places. It is also possible to start your charter at one base and end it in the other, providing extra time to explore these islands.

Charter in the Seychelles and among other natural delights watch turtles swimming in the warm turquoise waters. Take time ashore to hike through lush green jungles. Back on board your own luxurious all-in-one local transport and accommodation, go snorkelling among stunning coral reefs, or simply take time out and relax. Pack lots of fun and excitement into every minute of your trip, regardless of the time of year you visit.

Whatever you do in the Seychelles, enjoy being in one of nature's finest remaining locales, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The weather at the Seychelles is always warm and without extremes. It is one of those tropical havens where the temperature seldom drops below 24°C or rises above 32°C. All but the most remote southern islands in the group lie comfortably outside the cyclone belt. The islands provide a year-round destination for sun worshippers and sailors venturing to explore the fabulous Indan Ocean waters that surround them.

During the north-west trade winds that visit between November and April the sea is generally calm and the weather warm and humid, with average winds of 8-12 knots. In January and February the islands receive their life-giving rains that rejuvenate the waterways while teasing the vibrant foliage into every colour of the rainbow. Between May and October winds are from the south-east at 10-20 knots, with drier, slightly cooler weather and livelier seas.

There is such a wide variety of places to go and sheltered anchorages whichever way the wind is blowing, that anytime is a fine time to visit the Seychelles  .
