How do I get to Koh Chang for a sailing charter?
Most international visitors travelling to Koh Chang arrive in Thailand through Bangkok.
The quickest onward route is generally a domestic flight from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport to Trat, the nearest mainland airport. From Trat, travellers continue by road to the ferry terminal and take a vehicle ferry across to Koh Chang.
Alternatively, Koh Chang can be reached entirely by road from Bangkok, although this involves a journey of several hours before the ferry crossing.
Once on Koh Chang, the charter base is located at Salak Phet, on the southeastern side of the island. This requires a further road transfer, and it is advisable to arrange transport in advance rather than relying on finding a taxi on arrival.
Although the journey involves several stages, the connections are reasonably straightforward when organised properly.
We recommend allowing some time on Koh Chang before your charter begins, particularly if arriving after a long international flight. This provides an opportunity to relax, complete provisioning and explore a little of the island.
At Sail Connections we can advise on the transfer arrangements and help coordinate your arrival with the charter operator.
