Is the sailing in Turkey easy or challenging?
Turkey offers mostly sheltered, line-of-sight sailing with reliable summer breezes that make for relaxed coastal cruising. The prevailing wind in summer is the Meltemi that blows from the northwest. In most areas this is moderate, providing great sailing conditions without being overly demanding. Anchorages are plentiful and protected, and distances between ports are short, making for flexible day-to-day planning.
That said, summer heat and afternoon gusts can present challenges, especially in narrow bays or during marina arrivals. Some ports require stern-to mooring with a lazy line. That can be tricky if unfamiliar with the technique, but easily managed with a skipper on board or a short refresher.
Turkey is considered one of the more accessible Mediterranean sailing destinations, and we help match your route and boat to your group’s comfort level. If looking to build experience, it’s also a great destination to sharpen skills in a safe and beautiful environment.
