Yacht Charter FAQs

What are some good places to include in an Ionian Islands charter plan?

The Ionians present the perfect Greek island sailing holiday destination in so many ways. With calm conditions, short passages, and a mix of lively towns and peaceful anchorages, this region is ideal for families, new sailors, and those seeking a more relaxed cruising experience.

Corfu (Kerkyra)
With its international airport and established charter bases, Corfu is a popular starting point for an Ionian Islands charter. This vibrant, charming island boasts a rich maritime history, lush greenery, and plenty of scenic spots to explore.

Paxos & Antipaxos
Paxos offers a selection of stunning anchorages tucked into small fishing villages, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Just a short hop south, Antipaxos is known for its crystal-clear waters and quiet beaches – perfect for a relaxing afternoon swim.

Lefkada (Lefkas)
Connected to the mainland by a causeway and swing bridge, Lefkada is the Ionian’s primary charter hub. With excellent facilities, it’s ideal whether you’re starting, ending, or simply stopping during your cruise. Popular destinations nearby include Vasiliki, Nidri, and Sivota (on the mainland coast).

Meganisi
Located just off Lefkada’s southeast coast, Meganisi is a scenic island with peaceful overnight options like Spartochori and Vathi – great alternatives to busier Lefkada harbours.

Ithaca (Ithaki)
Further south and off the main tourist track, Ithaca is steeped in legend as the home of Odysseus. With its tranquil atmosphere, charming villages like Kioni and Vathy make for memorable stopovers.

Kefalonia (Cephalonia)
One of the larger Ionian islands, Kefalonia features a dramatic coastline, lush hills, and welcoming harbours such as Fiskardo and Sami. While ashore, don’t miss a visit to the Melissani caves.

Zakynthos (Zante)
Positioned further south, Zakynthos is best suited to longer itineraries. Highlights include the famous Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) and the stunning sea caves along the island’s north and west coasts.

Mainland Gems Along the Way
On a longer itinerary, the Greek mainland also offers delightful stops:

Preveza
Located at the entrance to the Ambracian Gulf, Preveza is an emerging charter base with arguably the region’s best air access. The town itself offers a lively waterfront and nearby ancient ruins.

Parga
Often visited en route between Corfu and Paxos, Parga is known for its colourful hillside houses, Venetian castle, and beautiful beaches.

Palairos & Mytikas
These quiet, unspoilt towns opposite Lefkada offer traditional tavernas, authentic charm, and peaceful anchorages for a short stay.
