Yacht Charter FAQs

What types of boats are available to charter in Italy?

Italy presents an extensive fleet of charter yachts, from agile monohulls to luxurious catamarans and traditional gulets.

Monohulls ranging from 35 to 55 feetare ideal for couples or smaller groups seeking a hands-on bareboat sailing experience. They are also easiest to berth in older, compact marinas common in Italian coastal towns. For the purist sailor, monohulls offer better upwind performance and a more classic sailing feel.

Catamarans on the other hand are perfect for families or groups wanting more space, stability, and comfort. They typically feature four cabins, spacious saloons, large decks, and easier access to the water. Cats are ideal for leisurely cruising around islands like Elba, Sardinia, or the Aeolian group. Because of their size, catamarans cost more than monohulls of similar length, and marina fees can be higher. However the benefits in onboard living space are often worth it.

In southern Italy, you’ll also find traditional Turkish-style gulets (known locally as caicchi), usually offered as fully crewed charters. These motor-sailers are great for larger groups and offer a unique way to explore Italy’s coastlines in style, with all meals and services provided.
