Cruczar – 38ft Sailing Catamaran

Cruczar is an 11.6-metre Tennant Sienna sailing catamaran available for bareboat or skippered charter from Auckland, New Zealand. Also available from Bay of Islands by arrangement. Cruczar is an 11.6-metre Tennant Sienna sailing catamaran available for bareboat or skippered charter, primarily out of Auckland. Roomy for her length and set up to accommodate up to eight guests, she is particularly well suited to families and groups wanting to explore the Hauraki Gulf aboard their own cruising catamaran.

Launched in December 2008, Cruczar (pronounced “Cruiser”) is locally owned and operated. From her Auckland base, some of New Zealand's most rewarding cruising grounds are within easy reach, including Waiheke, Rangitoto, Tiritiri Matangi and Kawau islands. With more time available, Great Barrier Island,the Coromandel coast or even parts of the Far North open up further possibilities.

Cruczar can also be made available for cruising in the Bay of Islands by arrangement, providing another option for exploring northern New Zealand under sail.

For suitably experienced sailors, Cruczar is available as a full bareboat. Alternatively, a skipper can be arranged, making her accessible to groups with little or no sailing experience as well as sailors who simply prefer to have someone with local knowledge take responsibility for the boat.

A Comfortable Catamaran for Families and Friends

Cruczar has been designed with practical cruising and onboard space in mind. Her accommodation comprises two queen berths and four adult-size single berths, providing sleeping space for up to eight.

That configuration works particularly well for two families sharing a sailing holiday, while the combination of double and single berths also provides flexibility for other groups.

The galley is equipped for self-catering with a three-burner hob, oven and grill, along with a 75-litre refrigerator and 92-litre freezer. There is an inside shower, electric toilet and additional cockpit shower.

A rigid inflatable tender with outboard is supplied, making it easy to get ashore when anchored in the Gulf's many bays.

Bareboat Charter on Cruczar

Experienced sailors can charter Cruczar on a full bareboat basis and take responsibility for the yacht for the duration of their holiday. The operator requires a reasonable level of sailing experience, and prospective bareboat skippers need to provide a sailing résumé when making their booking. Depending on experience, a vessel training day can also be arranged.

Bareboating gives an experienced crew the freedom to set its own itinerary within the permitted cruising area, adjusting plans for the weather and spending more time in the places that appeal most.

For an Auckland bareboat catamaran charter, the Hauraki Gulf offers an unusually varied cruising area right on the city's doorstep. Further north, the Bay of Islands offers another of New Zealand's premier sailing holiday destinations.

Chartering Cruczar with a Skipper

A professional skipper can be arranged for groups that do not have the experience required for bareboat charter, or simply prefer to leave responsibility for navigation and boat handling to somebody else.

This is also a good way to make the most of local knowledge. Cruczar's owner and skipper Warren Brown has spent many years sailing and fishing around the Hauraki Gulf.

A skippered charter still gives guests plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sailing. Depending on conditions and experience, you can take part in steering and sailing the catamaran while having an experienced person aboard to take overall responsibility. For families new to sailing, or visitors wanting to concentrate on enjoying the islands rather than managing the boat, this can be a very practical way to explore the Gulf.

Sailing Auckland's Hauraki Gulf

Few major cities have a cruising ground quite like Auckland's Hauraki Gulf. Within a relatively short sail of the city are islands, sheltered bays, beaches, walking tracks, vineyards, restaurants and wildlife reserves.

A Cruczar charter can include destinations such as Waiheke Island, with its vineyards, restaurants and beaches; Rangitoto Island, where a walk to the summit provides panoramic views over Auckland and the Gulf; Tiritiri Matangi, renowned for its native birdlife; and Kawau Island, with numerous bays and anchorages.

For longer charters, Great Barrier Island / Aotea adds a more remote dimension. Its sheltered harbours, beaches, walking tracks and anchorages make it one of the highlights of sailing in northern New Zealand. 

Swimming, fishing, snorkelling, walking ashore and simply finding a quiet anchorage for the evening can all form part of the itinerary.

Bay of Islands Catamaran Charter by Arrangement

Cruczar can also be available in the Bay of Islands by prior arrangement.

The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand's classic cruising destinations, with a large number of islands, sheltered anchorages and beaches spread through a relatively compact sailing area. It is an excellent option for groups wanting a longer northern New Zealand sailing holiday.
