Yacht Charter FAQs

Can I see whales, dolphins and sea lions on a La Paz charter?

Marine wildlife is one of the main reasons to choose a sailing holiday in the Sea of Cortez.

Dolphins are encountered in the region, while sea turtles, rays and numerous fish species inhabit the coastal waters. Whales also visit the Gulf of California, although the species present and likelihood of sightings vary throughout the year.

The sea lion colony at Los Islotes, north of Isla Partida, is one of the best-known attractions. Visitors can observe these animals in their natural habitat, with regulated snorkelling opportunities at certain times of year.

Swimming and diving around the colony are restricted during the summer breeding season, generally from June through August, to protect both the animals and visitors.

Whale shark encounters are another seasonal attraction in the La Paz area, normally undertaken through authorised local operators.

Wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed, but the diversity of marine life makes this an exceptionally rewarding destination for nature enthusiasts.
