Yacht Charter FAQs

What qualifications do I need to charter a yacht in Brazil?

To charter a yacht bareboat in Brazil, the nominated skipper must satisfy the applicable maritime regulations and the charter operator's requirements.

Operators generally expect recognised sailing qualifications together with practical experience handling yachts of a similar size and type. They may request copies of certificates and a sailing résumé detailing previous cruising and skippering experience.

Brazil has its own recreational boating qualifications, and overseas certificates are not necessarily accepted automatically. North American sailors holding American Sailing Association or US Sailing qualifications should therefore have their credentials assessed before confirming a charter.

At Sail Connections we can submit your qualifications and experience details to the proposed operator for approval, helping avoid uncertainty before booking.

If you do not meet the bareboat requirements, or would simply prefer assistance, hiring a professional skipper is an alternative. A local skipper also brings useful knowledge of Costa Verde's anchorages, navigation hazards and weather conditions.

Fully crewed charters provide another option for guests seeking a more comprehensive service.
