The Essental Yacht Charter Guide: What to Know Before You Go

Yacht Charter FAQs

How do you get to the Tuamotus?

Remoteness is part of what keeps the Tuamotu Archipelago so unspoiled and so very special.

Most international travellers arrive into Tahiti. From there, you can either connect to the charter bases in the Society Islands for a longer charter that includes that group, or take a domestic flight to selected atolls such as Rangiroa or Fakarava. It is also possbile by arrangement to sail directly from Tahiti itself.

These passages require careful timing and are not typically rushed, they form part of the experience rather than simply a transfer. The important message is that if you are not flying to the Tiuamotos, every charter will be unique. Talk to your sailing holiday broker in the first instance.

Getting the logistics right — flights, timing, provisioning — is an important part of making the whole trip run smoothly.
