Yacht Charter FAQs

What type of yacht is best for a Tuamotu Islands charter?

A catamaran is generally the preferred choice for sailing in the Tuamotu Islands. The region's shallow lagoons, coral reefs, and low-lying atolls are well suited to a catamaran's shallow draft, allowing access to anchorages and areas that may be difficult for deeper-draft yachts.

Catamarans also offer excellent stability and spacious living areas, which can be particularly welcome during passages between atolls. Given the remoteness of the Tuamotus, we also recommend choosing a yacht equipped with features such as a watermaker, reliable refrigeration, solar charging, and good storage capacity. These systems provide greater independence and comfort when cruising far from major provisioning centres.
